Being
involved in Student Life at Baruch is about trying new things, developing
leadership skills, and making connections with other students that will last a
lifetime. We encourage all students to
join groups, create networks, and enjoy common experiences.
However, no
group or fellow student should ever put you at risk, physically or emotionally,
as a condition for participation in a group or opportunity. Hazing isn’t just
against the Baruch and City University of New York Code of Conduct, it’s also
against New York State law.
Here are
some examples of activities that may constitute hazing. If a group is making
you:
·
Stay up for days straight
·
Spend long hours exposed to the elements
·
Perform physical exercises
·
Consume an excessive amount of alcohol
·
Daring you to do something dangerous
·
Isolating you from others
·
Harassing you or asking you to harass someone
Baruch
encourages all persons to report conduct or suspected conduct that they in good
faith believe may violate the law or Baruch policy so that Baruch may
investigate and take appropriate action.
A hazing incident may be reported by anyone: a person who was directly
affected by the activity, a person who was involved in the incident; faculty,
staff, parents, friends, or community members; or anyone who is generally concerned
about a student or group.
Persons
with knowledge of conduct or conditions that pose an imminent threat to the
health or safety of any member of the Baruch community or the public should
immediately call 911 or Baruch Public Safety at 646-312-3333.
If it is not
an emergency, use the form below to send a confidential report to the Office of
Student Life.
